Approach to Public Artwork
Commissioned Public Art is a different order of artwork, one that requires the flexibility of a Working Artist. A Working Artist must have a great range and diverse background showing strong ability, flexibility, acuity, and aesthetic.
A Working Artist has a vision of art that resonates in a larger public environment, this relies on an ability to respond with unique creativity for each commission’s paradigm. Rather than creating within a set style and safely repeating themselves within a ready paradigm the Working Artist steps beyond the limits of the strictly personal/academic and concerns themselves with the broader aesthetic of public work.
The demands upon the integrity of the Working Artist are on a different order, as they apply their full capacity to the parameters of widely divergent situations to create work of dynamic integrity. The aesthetic of the work relies on creativity, conceptual depth, and unerring craftsmanship; while each work is unique, the artist is recognizably apparent in all of their work.
