Greenman Reliquary
Juried Exhibition. Installation. Sundance, Utah
This series explores memory, distance, and loss. The figures are formed to respond to the ground plane, aligning in sequence to formulate the mortal passage into oblivion. The figures upon the aluminum plane described the concept of a river as metaphor for time and the passage of death. I placed the figures in the Sundance River as part of the Sundance Young Contemporary juried exhibition. They began to shatter with the freeze/thaw cycle of the early mountain winter. Figures entirely underwater remained unscathed, were recovered and placed in my garden to be destroyed by the slower freeze/thaw cycle of the arid Utah plains. These figures transformed themselves through their destruction, becoming more engaging as time and elements acted upon them – this series greatly informed my approach to the cast bronze Sequential figures.
